0.6s load time in GTMetrix after switching to https

Posted: December 29th, 2016 | No Comments »

I finally achieved 0.6s load time in GTMetrix after switching to https + doing some minor tweaks in my W3TC settings. Proof: https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.jehzlau-concepts.com/WN5evABj. Now I need to minify and combine all CSS and JS files, Optimize the order of styles and scripts, then Specify image dimensions. Then that’s it. Maybe I’ll achieve 100% in both Pagespeed and Yslow grade very soon.

Fixed ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR. Activated https + MaxCDN EdgeSSL + Cloudflare Full Strict SSL

Posted: December 29th, 2016 | No Comments »

Before 2016 ends, I made sure that this blog is more secure. Just like most WordPress users (and since SSL is now for free, thanks to Letsencrypt), I activated SSL at jehzlau-concepts.com! Now https://www.jehzlau-concepts.com is redirected to https://www.jehzlau-concepts.com/. MaxCDN url is also updated to a shared SSL CDN url, then Cloudflare cryptography SSL settings is set to Full (Strict).

Enabling https in WordPress is pretty simple, I didn’t even modify any WordPress files (e.g. wp-config.php) nor the famous .htaccess file. I just installed 2 plugins, and voila, everything in this blog is now working smoothly with https enabled! The two plugins I installed are: Really Simple SSL by Rogier Lankhorst and Easy HTTPS (SSL) Redirection by Tips and Tricks HQ.
Just make sure you already have SSL installed in your host. If you encountered a ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR, you just need change your nameservers back to your default nameservers. The ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR usually occurs when […]

Christmas Tree Education

Posted: December 22nd, 2016 | No Comments »

History of Christmas Trees
Even before Christianity or before Christ was born, people have been using evergreen trees to celebrate the winter season. There are plants and trees that remained green all year, called evergreen trees. These trees had a special meaning during winter and people would usually decorate their houses with a lush color of green. People during those times think that putting green branches in their homes would drive away evil spirits and unpleasant energies.
Germany is where the first printed reference of Christmas Trees first appeared. In Medieval Germany, Christmas Trees are viewed as pagan practice, until a stylish and popular British Queen, Queen Victoria made it into a popular tradition.
Beauty and Style has indeed shaped the world that we live in today.

First Artificial Christmas Trees
First Artificial Christmas Trees were made of Goose feathers. They started this in Germany and dyed them green which is then attached to wire […]

Posted: December 20th, 2016 | No Comments »

Do you find yourself reaching for your smartphone as soon as you wake up? Before you go to bed, is the glare of your tablet the last thing that you see? If you answered yes to both questions, then it’s about time that you tried a tech detox.

While technology has its benefits, too much of it can also be a bad thing. Eye strain is fast becoming a problem for many gadget users today. Likewise, some people experience neck pain from being hunched over their computers for too long.
To avoid eye strain, neck pain, and other health problems, here are five easy tips for a tech detox:
1. Limit your social media time.

How often do you check your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram? Social media networks are a great way to stay connected, but they can also be major time wasters. Before you know it, your “few minutes” could become an hour […]

Switched to HHVM from PHP 7

Posted: December 14th, 2016 | No Comments »

This WordPress blog is currently running on HHVM (Out of curiosity, I just switched even if I haven’t tested it yet locally). If you noticed some errors on specific pages in this blog, please do leave a comment below so that I can check it out. So far, HHVM seems to be pretty fast and I got no issues with the latest WP version 4.7 and all plugins installed (W3TC, All in one SEO, Jetpack, and other necessary plugins to keep this blog breathing). If you don’t have any clue what HHVM is, it stands for HipHop Virtual Machine. HHVM is developed by the geeks over at Facebook. According to Wikipedia, it is an open-source virtual machine based on just-in-time (JIT) compilation that serves as an execution engine for the PHP and Hack programming languages. Check out this wiki to know more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HipHop_Virtual_Machine
I’ve been itching to try HHVM 2 years […]
